When you don’t quite feel like yourself
Maybe you feel anxious more often than you’d like. Maybe you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns you don’t understand. Maybe life looks fine from the outside, but internally you feel unsettled or disconnected from yourself.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting therapy.
At The Houston Center for Valued Living, we create a thoughtful, steady space to slow down and make sense of what’s happening. Our work is grounded in evidence-based therapy, combining research-supported approaches with genuine compassion and collaboration. Together, we clarify your values, identify unhelpful patterns, and build practical skills that support meaningful, sustainable change.
Therapy isn’t about fixing who you are. It’s about helping you live in a way that feels more aligned, intentional, and whole.

OUR CORE VALUES
The Houston Center for Valued Living was named with the aspiration to create a therapy space that encourages clients to recognize their self-worth, embrace their lives, identify their core values, and work toward their unique goals.

Connection:
We believe meaningful change happens when you feel truly seen and understood. Connection means creating a space where you feel seen, heard, and understood. It also means helping you strengthen meaningful connections in your own life — with partners, children, family, and yourself.

Discovery:
Therapy is not just about reducing symptoms. It’s about learning more about yourself — your patterns, your strengths, your fears, and your values. Through discovery, clarity emerges, and new choices become possible.

Compassion:
Change is difficult, especially when you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck. We approach every client with warmth, respect, and non-judgment. Just as importantly, we help clients develop self-compassion — learning to respond to themselves with understanding instead of criticism. Growth becomes more sustainable when it is rooted in kindness rather than shame.

Growth:
Growth does not mean becoming a different person. It means moving toward a life that feels more aligned with what matters to you. We are committed to meaningful, sustainable change for our clients, and to the ongoing growth of our clinicians through continued education, consultation, and professional development. We believe strong therapists continue learning, too.

FAQ
What are your fees?
Clinician fees vary by the individual. For a complete list of our fees, visit https://www.houstoncenterforvaluedliving.com/therapy-cost/.
Do you accept insurance?
The Houston Center for Valued Living is an out-of-network provider, which means we do not accept insurance directly. Payment is due in full at the time of your session.
If you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance company may reimburse you for a portion of the session fee. We can provide a “superbill” for you to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
Please note: when submitting a superbill, insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis. This diagnosis becomes part of your medical record. Many clients are comfortable with this, but if you prefer not to have a diagnosis shared with your insurance company, paying fully out of pocket is the best way to maintain privacy.
To learn about your out-of-network benefits, call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card and ask about out-of-network mental health coverage, including your deductible and reimbursement rate.
If you’d like guidance on how to check your benefits, feel free to contact us at info@hcfvl.com.
How can I pick the right therapist?
Choosing the right therapist starts with finding someone who has experience in the area you’re seeking help for. We recommend starting by looking at a therapist’s areas of focus and training to make sure they work with what you’re going through.
If you’re unsure where to start, contact us directly. We’re happy to learn more about what you’re looking for and help match you with a therapist on our team whose training and focus align with your needs.
What can I expect in the first session?
Your first session is a thoughtful, structured conversation designed to understand both the surface concerns and the deeper patterns shaping yourexperience.
We do not follow a one-size-fits-all intake process. Instead, we tailor the initial session to your needs whether you are seeking support for OCD, insomnia, anxiety, parenting concerns, relationship stress, or simply a desire for greater clarity and direction.
During this session, we will explore:
- What prompted you to reach out now
- The patterns that feel stuck, overwhelming, or repetitive
- Relevant personal and relational history
- The outcomes you hope therapy will support
When clinically appropriate, we may use brief, targeted screening tools to clarify symptoms, clarify aspects of treatment and track improvement. These measures are not about labeling, they help us create a precise, evidence-based treatment plan.
If a structured approach such as CBT, CBT-I, ERP, ACT, or parent coaching would be beneficial, we will explain how that process
works and what to expect moving forward.
By the end of the first session, you can expect:
- A clearer conceptual understanding of what may be happening
- A collaborative outline of first steps
- An opportunity to ask questions
- A sense of whether the fit feels right
Our goal is not simply to gather information, it is to begin building direction. The first session sets the foundation for intentional, meaningful work.

What is your cancellation/reschedule policy?
We understand that plans can change. We ask for 48 hours’ notice for Tuesday–Friday appointments and 72 hours’ notice for Monday appointments.
Cancellations or reschedules made after this window will be charged the full session fee.
Would therapy be useful for me?
We work with clients across a wide range of needs – from those seeking growth, clarity, and more intentional living to those whose anxiety, mood, sleep, or stress are significantly impacting daily life. You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Whether you feel slightly off or deeply overwhelmed, support can help. A consultation can help you decide if therapy is the right next step.
