Intensive Therapy for OCD and Anxiety Disorders in Houston

What is the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

At the Houston Center for Valued Living, we offer an Intensive Therapy Program designed specifically for individuals struggling with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorders, such as Social Anxiety Disorder, Specific Phobia, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Our high-level care for OCD provides a structured, one-on-one therapeutic environment for those who need more intensive support than traditional outpatient therapy.

What is Intensive Therapy for OCD?

Our Intensive Therapy Program (similar to an Intensive Outpatient Program) is a focused treatment option for people who require more frequent and longer therapy sessions. This program is particularly beneficial for those experiencing severe OCD symptoms but do not require hospitalization. You will work directly with a therapist 3-5 days per week, with each session lasting 3 hours. Sessions can be conducted in-person or virtually to suit your needs.

This program is ideal for:

  • Severe OCD treatment without hospitalization
  • Individuals transitioning from a residential OCD program
  • Those on leave from work or school due to OCD or anxiety
  • Clients who need more than weekly therapy sessions for effective recovery

Is Intensive Therapy Right for You?

If you’ve found that weekly therapy isn’t enough to manage your symptoms or you’re transitioning out of a more intensive setting (such as a residential program), this intensive treatment for OCD could be the next step. Our program is designed for adults and adolescents with severe OCD or anxiety disorders.

We also offer modifications for children, depending on therapist availability. To determine if intensive OCD therapy is right for you, we offer a free 20-minute phone consultation to discuss your needs, past treatments, and current challenges. After an initial consultation and evaluation, we’ll determine whether this program or more frequent outpatient therapy is the best fit.

What Can You Expect from Our Intensive Therapy for OCD?

Prior to starting, clients complete an initial phone interview and provide relevant medical and psychological records. This helps us understand your history and ensure you receive the right level of care.

Once approved, your therapist will:

  1. Conduct a comprehensive assessment of your current symptoms and challenges.
  2. Develop a personalized treatment plan focused on your specific OCD or anxiety struggles.
  3. Guide you through Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold standard for OCD treatment, in various settings—including your home, public places, or our office.

In addition to ERP, we may incorporate other therapeutic modalities, such as:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy
  • Family therapy to reduce accommodation behaviors

This combination of therapies ensures that we target both your OCD symptoms and any co-occurring issues such as anxiety, stress, or depression.

What Makes Our Intensive OCD Therapy Different?

Unlike many other Intensive Outpatient Programs, the Houston Center for Valued Living offers completely individualized therapy. You won’t be part of a generic group program. Instead, your treatment is customized specifically to your needs.

  • One-on-One Attention: Each session is focused entirely on you. Your therapist works closely with you to adjust the plan as needed and ensure you’re making progress.
  • Flexible Locations: We can conduct ERP in various environments, including your home, public spaces, or our therapy office, to ensure you’re exposed to the real-life situations where your OCD or anxiety manifests.
  • Customized Exposure Therapy: Based on the Inhibitory Learning Model for OCD, we offer ERP in different settings to ensure the most effective results.

How Often Will You Attend Therapy?

Our high-level care for OCD offers flexibility based on your needs:

  • Full IOP: 3 hours of therapy per day, 5 days a week.
  • Less Intensive Option: 3 hours of therapy per day, 2-3 days a week.

As you progress and your symptoms improve, we may transition you into traditional outpatient therapy or reduce the frequency of sessions as necessary.

Cost of Intensive OCD Therapy

  • Full Program (3 hours per day, 5 days a week): $650 per day
  • Less Intensive Program (3 hours per day, 3 days a week): $650 per day
  • Travel Fees: If exposures are conducted outside of our office (e.g., in your home or a public space), travel time is billed in 15-minute increments at your therapist’s hourly rate.

Virtual and In-Home OCD Therapy

We understand that flexibility is important, which is why we offer:

  • Virtual Intensive Therapy: For clients unable to attend in-person sessions, virtual therapy via telehealth is available.
  • In-Home Therapy: For clients whose OCD is most severe in the home environment, we can conduct ERP and other therapeutic interventions in your home. This is often beneficial for those whose compulsions or anxiety-producing behaviors are closely tied to their home routines.

What Happens After Intensive Therapy?

Once you’ve met your therapeutic goals, we will develop a relapse prevention plan to ensure you maintain progress. This often includes transitioning to weekly or bi-weekly outpatient therapy. We also offer a twice monthly support group for OCD, which you can attend during or after the program to help maintain long-term progress
