Adjustment Issues & Life Transitions & Stress Management
“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it” – Hellen Keller
I strongly believe that most of us are just doing the best that we know how, but sometimes we find ourselves feeling stuck in the sludge that comes with living a human life.
We live in a world in which we get frequent alerts from our phones, social media, magazines, and streaming tv shows that we’re failing, we’re not doing something good enough, and if we just tried harder or followed this easy outlined 4 step plan we’d somehow be finally happy. We buy into this again and again, measuring ourselves up to the unattainable perfection of other’s Facebook and Instagram posts. Our anxiety soars. Our feelings of self-worth plummet. Our stress becomes unmanageable. We wonder what’s wrong with us and feel ashamed over our struggle or develop anxiety about our anxiety!
Using cognitive behavioral therapy with components of acceptance, mindfulness, and self-compassion, I help my clients move through the sludge of life toward meaningful and purpose driven change. Whether you want to overcome insomnia, reduce feelings of anxiety or depression, or find a way to survive the difficult years of motherhood/fatherhood, therapy can help you in taking the first step.
Counseling Approach
Kathryn utilizes:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

My Style
- We’re going to start wherever you are at, with a whole lot of kindness and understanding. I recognize you’re not where you want to be. I recognize that you’re stuck.
- I’m professional with a casual and warm style of therapy.
- I’m going to say more than just “uh huh” and “that’s interesting” because if you wanted to talk to a brick wall, there’s one outside our building that you can consult with for free 🙂
- You can expect humor, empathy, and a genuine desire on my part to understand.
- Transparency. I’m no magician. I have no tricks up my sleeve. I have therapeutic techniques and skills and a strong desire to help you create the life you want. I’m going to let you know what the plan is and what’s happening every step of the way.
Do you accept insurance?
I am an out of network provider for insurance. This means that I do not accept insurance. Some insurance companies will reimburse you a percentage of the session fee. This depends on your specific insurance plan and deductible. Please call your insurance company (number on the back of your card) to ask about your out of network mental health benefits.
